“Market” ≠ “Target Audience”

Series for App Founders: After Meeting With 200+ Entrepreneurs

Many founders tell me, “My market is huge.” But that does not mean everyone in that market wants or needs your product.

Success is not about market size, it is about accuracy.

Example:

A founder approached me with a fitness app and said, “It is for everyone.” But that is never true.

Some people are beginners and need guidance. Some already have a routine and want to level up. Others are advanced and need a very specific solution.

Markets are built from niches, each with its own problems, needs, and expectations.

Your product needs to solve a specific problem in a way people actually want and will pay for.

What you can do:

  • Write one simple sentence:

“My app helps ___ who need ___ so they can ___.”

Then add: “What matters most to them?”

A founder who knows who they are talking to, their needs, pains, and priorities, will always win.
